Mangalorean Padengi Gassi Recipe- Green Moong Dal Curry

  • Add the green sprouts, chopped onions and tomatoes to the pressure cooker. Add turmeric powder, salt and 2-1/2 cups water and mix well.

  • Place toasted condiments into a blender along with coconut. Add 1/4 cup warm water and stir into a smooth kasi paste.

  • *Making Padengi Gassi

  • Once pressure cooker pressure is released; add grated gassi masala to cooked sprouted Moong dal. Mix well. Check the salt and spice levels and adjust to your taste.

  • Place the pressure cooker on medium heat and start cooking the Padengi Gassi.

  • While the Padengi Gassi is boiling, we will make the sauce.

  • In the same small pot you dry roasted the peppers; heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chillies and let them roast and pop. Let the dal turn golden brown.
