A group in Winnipeg Lego Enthusiasts are gearing up for the first-ever display of their custom creations next weekend at Grant Park Mall.
Manitoba LEGO User Group MBLUG is hosting the River City Brick Festival on June 15 and hopes to see fans of the popular building block toy of all ages come out to the event.
The free event promises a display of custom LEGO creations, competitions, opportunities for kids to dig and build on site, and more.
It will also feature MBLUG member Scott Templeton's The highlight: A scale model of the old Winnipeg Arena.

Templeton told 680 CJOB start A few years ago, he completed a tribute to the Winnipeg Jets 1.0, which brought him unexpected (local) viral fame.
“I really wanted to build a big arena. I've always wanted to do it since I was a kid, I'm a big Jets fan, I love history, so all of my interests came together,” Templeton said.
“It’s been sitting in the basement for a while and I’ve been slowly adding more mini figures to it and it will be on display again next weekend.”
The project, which Templeton estimates took 40 to 50 hours to build, can be taken anywhere, but as with any Lego creation, it should be moved with caution.
“It actually broke in half. I took all the figures out, took the roof off, and then it just broke in half,” he said.
“I used some bubble wrap, shrink wrap and some boxes, and we just hoped we didn’t hit any big potholes that day.”
Templeton said MBLUG has been involved in events such as Comic-Con for many years, and Brickfest is the first original show MBLUG has put on.
“At our core, we’re just a bunch of adults who are into Lego,” he said.
“We get together probably every three months. We also have some online meetings… basically we just do a lot of fun things combining our respective hobbies.”
