What is Sattu

Technically, sattu is just flour made from roasted bengal gram or black chana. Apart from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, this indigenous product is also popular in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab. Thanks to these regions, sattu, which was originally undervalued, is now gaining popularity across the globe as well.

Traditionally, the main ingredient of sattu is roasted Bengal chickpeas, also known as black chickpeas. But there are many variations of this flour and it can even be made from barley (jau), wheat (gehun) or sorghum (jowar), which contains a certain proportion of bengali grams. How to make Sattu ke Laddu
