Mini World Cup unites hundreds of children in Rutland and Okanagan, B.C. | Globalnews.ca

A major soccer tournament brought together 850 BC children for a mini World Cup.

The players, aged between seven and 10, met on Sunday at Rutland Arena in Kelowna, B.C.

“It started out with just a few teams, but this year has grown and is the biggest year yet. We have 58 teams from all over the Okanagan Valley,” said Caryn Richardson with the Rutland County Youth Soccer Committee.

Each team chooses a country to represent them in the World Cup. They wear team colors, paint their faces, and do their best to be proud of their chosen country.

“I think soccer is catching on, development programs are really moving forward, and our grass trail program in the Okanagan is getting better and better,” Richardson said.
