Guelph police are investigating the theft of a bank ATM safe.
A security guard arrived at the bank in response to a call just before 5 a.m. Saturday.
Police said when security arrived at the scene, they found the front panel of the ATM machine was wide open and the safe had been forcibly removed from the concrete fence, containing an unknown amount of cash.
Security cameras inside ATMs were spray-painted black to obscure their view.
Investigators said surveillance video from a nearby business showed a pedestrian approaching the ATM around 3 a.m.
They said they saw sparks in the area a short time later, and then a light-colored SUV arrived to pick up the person.
Investigators are speaking with anyone who was there and may have witnessed the incident.
