McDonald’s fans will be gutted as ‘unreal’ burger has been axed from menu

It’s a big day for McDonald’s fans in the UK as the fast food chain launches its special limited-edition 50th birthday menu.

As well as the return of the iconic Double Big Mac (and a bacon version), there’s also new a new Milkybar McFlurry, a birthday cake donut, and garlic bread dippers, which sound exciting.

But as the menu changes over, several items will be axed from the current line-up, including an ‘unreal’ burger and a sweet treat that fans said was the ‘best ever’ dessert.

The Hat Trick was a launch that coincided with the Euros 2024 and the beast of a burger featured not one, not two, but (you’ve guessed it) three beef patties, as well as two slices of cheese, grilled onions, mustard, and ketchup inside a glazed sesame seed bun.

Fans hailed the £5.89 menu item as ‘unreal’, ‘delicious’, and urged others to try it before it was too late. Many will likely be gutted to see it’s no longer on the menu, if these posts on social media are anything to go by.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), @RR__MFC said: ‘That Hat Trick burger from McDonald’s is unreal ain’t it cor.’ While @LetitiaMarie90 wrote: ‘Tell ya what the Hat Trick burger from McDonald’s is a little bit yummy. Heart attack territory BUT pretty awesome.’

@9plus1equals10 posted: ‘I had my first Hat Trick burger from McDonald’s and I can confirm *chefs kiss*.

‘I’ve heard mixed reviews but mine was incredible. Everything a Double Quarter Pounder gives you and more.

‘Unbelievable burger in every sense of the word.’

And @JordR23 added: ‘I had that new Hat Trick burger from McDonald’s earlier and it was absolutely f***ing awesome.’

As well as the Hat Trick, other items that are no longer available at McDonald’s UK as of today include the Skittles McFlurry, The Galaxy Caramel Mcflurry, Galaxy Chocolate Raspberry Pie, and Mozzarella Bites.

The new 50th birthday menu takes over at Maccies from July 17, with many of the stores getting a hit of nostalgia.

Customers can get their hands on the Double Big Mac, Double Big Mac with Bacon, Garlic Bread Cheesy Dippers, a Milkybar Raspberry Ripple McFlurry, Munchies Cookie Dough McFlurry, and Birthday Cake Donut.

The Chicken Sharebox remains on the menu, which contains Chicken Selects, Chicken Nuggets and a whole host of dips to choose from. There’s also a Chicken Selects Sharebox option available.

This switch up comes after the fast food chain confirmed that the McPlant wouldn’t be going anywhere, despite being taken off menus in the US.

The McPlant was trialled in America in November 2021, in places such as Texas, Iowa, California, and Louisiana. According to Maccies US president Joe Erlinger, it was initially successful, selling around 500 burgers per week.

However, Joe told QSR Magazine that when they expanded the trial to Dallas and San Francisco in 2022, this number dropped to just 20 per day, and as low as three to five in rural areas.

With sales being so low, the chain has decided to stop offering the vegan option across the States, instead planning to focus on chicken, which is one of their better performing meats.

The vegan burger has proved popular with UK customers, so much so that McDonald’s even recently launched a new vegan dessert.

Known as Scoop, the vegan ice-cream style dessert, comes in two flavours, Choco or Strawberry, and is served in a tub, like a McFlurry but without any toppings.

McDonald’s has described the frozen product, which costs £1.59, as ‘deliciously smooth and creamy’ and says that it’s like ‘summer in a scoop’.

However, there is a catch, and a pretty big one at that. For now, the Vegan Scoop will only be available in 52 restaurants, as part of a trial in the North West of England.

Locations involved in the trial include Manchester, Rochdale, Ardwick, Bury, Denton, Stockport, and Ashton-Under-Lyne.

The trial will be running from June 12 to September 3, and if all goes well the vegan dessert will hopefully be launching in McDonald’s restaurants nationwide in 2025.
