WestJet Daily flights between Hamilton and St. John's, Newfoundland, will be suspended in July.

A spokesperson for the Calgary-based airline called the move “disappointing” and said year-round service will continue between the Ontario city and its global hub in Calgary.

“After careful consideration, we made the decision to cancel service,” WestJet's Madison Krueger told Global News. “We know this is disappointing news for our customers and the Hamilton community and sincerely apologize for the impact this may have caused.”

WestJet has adjusted its flights to and from John Munro Airport due to Low-cost airline Swoop collapses Last summer, the company called for “modest adjustments” to “balance operational capacity across the network.”

The St. John's route, which has a stop in Halifax, was a regular destination for Swoop Air until it was discontinued last year.

Kruger said passengers had been notified directly or through their travel agents and were given “as much advance notice as possible”.

“Affected guests will be refunded via their original method of payment,” Krueger said.

From July 1, the route will be suspended and removed from the Hamilton flight schedule.

WestJet previously revealed that it would end its Saint John to Toronto route after October 27.
