Long-serving MP for Halifax. Wey Mason has joined the race and will run for mayor this fall.
Mason, who was first elected to the council in 2012 and is currently serving his third term representing the South Downtown area, is particularly outspoken about the growth and vitality of the downtown area.
Mason said in a statement Monday that his plan focuses on housing issues and making housing affordable in municipalities.
Mason grew up in Dartmouth and was an entrepreneur and business owner before entering municipal politics.

Mason is the fifth person to announce his candidacy for Halifax Regional Municipality Mayor (HRM) and the second incumbent councillor to announce his candidacy for the position.

She identified cost of living and housing as one of the top issues facing HRM and pledged to work closely with provincial and federal leaders to find solutions.

Halifax MP Andy Fillmore has expressed interest in the job but has yet to make an official announcement.
The nomination period closes on September 10 and the municipal election will be held on October 19.
