US wireless carriers and FCC investigating reports of users unable to make calls - The Nation | Globalnews.ca

AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile said Tuesday that some customers are having problems making calls to other wireless carriers, prompting an investigation by the Federal Communications Commission.

The extent of the problem is not yet clear.

“There is an issue occurring nationwide that is impacting customers' ability to place calls between carriers,” AT&T said in a statement. “We are working closely with Verizon to determine the nature of the issue and what actions are needed.”

AT&T added that its network “did not experience nationwide outages.”

Verizon said in a statement that its network was operating normally, but some of its customers in the Northeast and Midwest were “experiencing issues making calls or sending text messages to customers of other carriers. We continue to monitor this situation.”

T-Mobile US said it “did not experience network outages. We are seeing an increase in outage detections from other providers, so this may be a challenge our customers are experiencing when connecting to users on other networks.”

The FCC and New York Attorney General Letitia James said in February they were investigating the cause of an AT&T TN outage earlier that month and the telecom company's response. The outage lasted more than 10 hours and affected more than 70,000 customers.
