Last year was the second highest Calgary Stampede Attendance reached a record 1,384,632, just shy of the previous record of 1.4 million set during the centennial celebrations in 2012.

Calgary Stampede CEO Joel Cawley said this year's performance could be even better.

“So far this year, our ticket prices are up from the same period last year. Our premium seats are almost completely sold out. Our canvas sale in April set a new record for average ticket price per passenger,” Cawley said.

“So, this year is looking like a great year. Most importantly, with the expansion of BMO, we can offer more space to our guests.”

The Calgary Hotel Association says bookings are at least on par with last year, while corporate bookings are up. The association predicts Stampede revenue could exceed $100 million for the first time this year.

Carson Ackroyd, vice-president of sales for Tourism Calgary, said all signs point to Calgary becoming an even bigger tourist destination. More than 300 musical acts are expected to perform in Calgary during this year's Stampede.

“During Mardi Gras, there are a lot of venues around. It has become a big music festival. Our marketing department has been working hard to promote it. We've seen huge interest,” Ackroyd said.

“All indications are that Calgary’s tourism economy will grow significantly in the coming years,” Ackroyd said.
