Last year was the second highest Calgary Stampede Attendance reached a record 1,384,632, just shy of the previous record of 1.4 million set during the 2012 Centennial celebrations.
Calgary Stampede CEO Joel Cawley said this year's performance could be even better.
“So far this year, our tickets are up from the same period last year. Our premium seats are almost completely sold out. Our canvas auction in April set a new record for average price per rider,” Cowley said.
“So, this is looking like a great year. And most importantly, we can provide additional space for our guests with the BMO expansion.”

The Calgary Hotel Association said bookings are at least on par with last year, while corporate bookings are up. The association predicts Stampede revenue could exceed $100 million for the first time this year.
Carson Ackroyd, vice president of sales for Tourism Calgary, said all signs point to Calgary becoming a bigger tourist destination. More than 300 music acts are expected to perform in Calgary during this year's Stampede.
“During Mardi Gras, there are a lot of venues around. It has become a big music festival. Our marketing department has been working hard to promote that. We've seen huge interest,” Ackroyd said.
“All indications are that Calgary will see a significant increase in its tourism economy in the coming years,” Ackroyd said.
