Stratford police call for return of two ashes taken during home invasion | Globalnews.ca

Police in Stratford, Ont., are appealing for the return of the ashes of two people and two pets who went missing from a family member's home last month.

The report said the ashes of the victim’s husband and brother-in-law were stolen along with silver plates, silverware and jewelry following the break-ins between May 15 and May 22.

A police spokesperson told Global News the victim was walking away from his home on Ontario Street between Waterloo and Front streets when the incident occurred.

Police said the ashes were placed in two containers, the first of which was in a corrugated cardboard box from a crematorium and in a burgundy cloth bag tied with a gold rope from Yang's Funeral Home.

The second batch of ashes came from a funeral home in Michigan and was placed in a plastic container with a white canvas LL Bean bag at the bottom.

Also in the canvas bag were two smaller containers containing the ashes of two pets.

Police said both batches of ashes had documents from the funeral home that confirmed what was inside the containers.

According to a release from the police, they have not yet found any suspects in the case.

“Due to the tremendous emotional toll such thefts take on the victims, family members and friends of the deceased, the Stratford Police Department is asking the person responsible to place the ashes outside of Young's Funeral Home, located at 430 Huron Street in Stratford, or to deliver them to the Stratford Police Department, located at 17 W. George Street in Stratford, so that the ashes can be reunited with their loved ones,” the release stated.
