“It's not every day that you find space junk in the wild. We know it came from the sky because it couldn't have gotten there on its own,” Sawchuk told The Canadian Press.

For months, the space junk sat in Sawchuk's studio while his story attracted international attention. Now that the debris is gone, Sawchuk is glad to put it behind him.

“It’s fun,” he said. “Life goes on. On the farm, life never stops.”

SpaceX employees drove a removal truck to the farm and hauled the debris behind it. The people who salvaged the space junk did not comment, but they confirmed to reporters that they worked for Space X, the company founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk.

Sawchuk was paid an undisclosed amount for returning the space junk to SpaceX but said the money would be donated to his hometown ice rink.

“This is our community,” he said. “The rink was built to last for the next 100 years or so … This is all community driven.”
