Saskatchewan government says STF rejected binding arbitration | Globalnews.ca

Negotiations between the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation (STF) and the provincial government may once again be at an impasse.

According to the Government-Trustees Bargaining Committee (GTBC), both parties met with the STF on Wednesday to discuss how to complete the negotiations.

“The GTBC proposed that the parties could jointly request binding arbitration. However, the STF declined,” the province said in a news release.

Education Secretary Jeremy Cockerill said: “The government is committed to reaching an agreement that provides stability and predictability for pupils, families and the education sector. Binding arbitration is the best way to achieve this. Our priority is to ensure that teaching time and important student activities are not further disrupted.”

Earlier this year, the STF filed for binding arbitration with the provincial government as a way to end the then-working sanctions.
