City Councilwoman Debbie Cannon said she pushed for Salmon Arm to bid for the Olympics.

In December, the British Columbia Senior Games Association announced Salmon Arm as the host city for the 2024 Senior Games. In 2023, Abbotsford will host the Senior Games.

“Well, this is the event I’ve always wanted to host — something big like this,” Cannon said.

“I didn’t realize that senior sports for those over 55 were more important than youth sports, whether winter or summer.”

This Games will not only benefit Salmon Arm, but the entire region.

“Every venue will have something going on,” Harrison said.

Kelowna Senior Games Legacy


Salmon Arm resident Muriel Hurlbert is a longtime participant in the games and hopes to compete in this year’s event.

“I've been doing this for 18 years and I hope to keep doing it until I win 100 medals,” Herbert said. “I've got another two or three years to go.”

Torchbearer Ralph Owens is also looking forward to seeing his son from Victoria compete in the Olympics – but not in table tennis.

“I can beat him all the time,” Owens said.

Registration is still open and volunteers are needed.
