Regina teacher reflects on career before St. Rose Community School demolition - Regina | Globalnews.ca

117 years later, Holy Rosary Community School Regina will have its last graduating class.

“It's been awesome to see these kids grow and learn so much, and this community is so great, it's like a small town, and I'm really going to miss it,” said Cheri Meadowcroft, a teacher at Holy Rose Community School.

The school will be demolished at the end of June and students will attend Sacred Heart Community School in the fall.

“This community is amazing,” Meadowcroft said. “There are kids here whose parents went to this school, and even generations of kids who have been here.”

Meadowcroft said some students are anxious about transferring, but others are excited. She said faculty and staff moves have not yet been determined.

She said the school has been a pillar of the community.

“It’s sad to see the differences here, but change is good, new opportunities, new experiences, new things in the community is probably the best thing that’s happened in a long time.”

Meadowcroft said she hopes the land can be used as a community center, garden or facility to provide activities for seniors and children.

“Hopefully, staffing will be in place next week and we'll know the outcome then,” she said.

Last week, alumni visited the school for the last time.
