A World Cup skier and his girlfriend died after falling nearly 2,300 feet (about 700 meters) while climbing. Italian Alps.

Rescuers launched an hours-long helicopter search on Saturday after their families reported them missing and said they had not returned from their climb. Rescuers used cellphone signal detection equipment to locate them.

The couple's bodies were found still tied together with safety ropes.
