Police are investigating after a body was found along the St. John River Friday morning.
In ReleaseThe St. John's Police Department said emergency responders received a report around 9:30 a.m. that human remains were found in the water near the river's Reversing Falls.
Responding police officers, with the assistance of the city fire department, retrieved the body from the water.
“The cause, manner and timing of death remain subject to further investigation,” police said in a statement, adding that the major crime squad, forensic department and coroner were assisting with the investigation.

“Our team is working closely with partners and forensic experts to positively identify the remains.”
Additionally, the release states that investigators are gathering information on missing persons cases in the area in an attempt to identify those found.
“Saint John Police recognize that these discoveries are extremely difficult for the families and friends of missing persons,” police said.
