Pedestrian hit and killed by vehicle in downtown Edmonton - Edmonton | Globalnews.ca

A 58-year-old man has died after he was struck by a car while walking in downtown Edmonton Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. near 124th Street and 112th Avenue in the Inglewood neighborhood.

Police said the pedestrian was crossing 124th Street when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.

Emergency responders treated the man and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said in a news release Monday afternoon.

The 74-year-old man driving the vehicle remained at the scene. Police said intoxication and speed were not factors in the collision.

According to police, charges related to the driving incident are pending.

This is the second pedestrian death in two days in Edmonton. One man died and one woman was injured when they were hit by a vehicle near 120th Street and 113th Avenue.

Police say six pedestrians have been killed in Edmonton this year. During the same period last year, two pedestrians were killed in the city.
