Ontario man accused of shooting ex-partner outside her home | Globalnews.ca

The man accused of shooting and killing an Ontario mother of three had previously been in a relationship with her, police say.

On May 23, members of the Nottawasaga OPP Major Crimes Unit arrested Ahmet Duzguner, 51, of New Tecumseth and charged him with first-degree murder.

Nearly two years before charges were filed against Ahmet Duzguner, 38-year-old Sibel Duzguner (née Yirtici) was shot and killed in her car outside her home in the summer of 2022, police said.

When asked if police could confirm that Ahmet Duzguner was Sibel Dizguner’s ex-husband, Nottawasaga OPP confirmed that “the victim and the accused had a previous relationship.”

Police said in a statement last year that Siebel was planning to remarry at the time of her death.

The 38-year-old woman was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Global News emailed Ahmed's lawyer, Deniz Sarikaya, asking for his response to the allegations.

The lawyer responded: “The matter has been made in court. Therefore any response will also be made in court. At this time, we have not received any disclosure. Mr. Duzguna is presumed innocent and he has the support of his family and loved ones.”

Sibel Duzguner's family described her as a loving mother who had strong ties to the local Turkish and Muslim communities.
