Northern youth help build homes in Dominican Republic - Winnipeg | Globalnews.ca

Students from northern Manitoba returned to Winnipeg today after a trip to the Dominican Republic where they helped a family build a home.

The team is made up of 22 volunteers from three northern First Nations tribes.

Organizers of the trip said the trip to the Dominican Republic would teach students resilience, generosity and help build cross-cultural connections.

Former Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Chief Sheila North was one of the guardians accompanying the group of young people and she was very proud of all the students’ hard work.

“I especially want young people from the North to experience what it’s like to go to another country,” North said. “See what’s similar and different about our communities, and then have the opportunity to give back.”
