New Brunswick school bus drivers failing to meet licensing, training requirements: audit - New Brunswick | Globalnews.ca

New Brunswick's auditor general has found evidence that school bus drivers failed to meet licensing, training and criminal record check requirements.

Paul Martin today released an audit report which also highlighted “key areas of concern” in school bus maintenance, noting that 63 buses had failed to be inspected on time.

The audit report noted that drivers and education departments failed to ensure compliance with vehicle maintenance schedules.

Martin said the department lacks oversight to ensure compliance.

The audit, which covers the period from January 1, 2022 to February 1, 2024, also found there was little strategy in place to recruit and retain bus drivers.

Martin submitted 12 recommendations to the provincial government aimed at addressing these issues.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published on June 4, 2024.
