MONTREAL (AP) — Max Verstappen Won Canada Grand Prix Sunday marks the third consecutive year that the Red Bull star celebrates his 60th birthday Formula 1 A championship and sixth place in nine races this season.

The 25-year-old Dutch driver started in the rain in second place alongside pole-sitter George Russell, took control early once the sun came out and dominated once again at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Notre-Dame Île in the St. Lawrence River.

Verstappen finished 3.879 seconds ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris in the 70-lap race around the 2.71-mile (4.36-kilometer) track.

Mercedes took the next two places, with Russell third and seven-time Montreal champion Lewis Hamilton fourth. McLaren's Oscar Piastri was fifth, followed by Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, the latter the only Canadian driver in the race.

Last year in Montreal, Verstappen started from pole position and led every lap. He has won the last three world championships.

Verstappen matched Russell's lap time in qualifying on Saturday and started second on the grid in the decider on Sunday, with Russell taking pole position because he posted the first time.
