Vancouver residents and visitors won’t be able to enjoy one of the city’s most popular outdoor recreational areas this summer.
The Kitsilano outdoor pool will not open due to what the parks board calls “some core issues.”
Although many repairs were done during the off-season, the pool was still losing too much water, causing the chemicals to be out of balance.
Vancouver Coastal Health has confirmed that the pool cannot be operated safely in its current state.
The Parks Commission explained that the Kitsilano pool is more than 50 years old and needed repairs to the underground pipes and pool, as well as a custom liner to extend its life.
Second Beach Pool hours will be extended to reduce the impact of the closure.
