A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in Vancouver for Ibrahim AliLast December, he was convicted of first-degree murder for the death of a teenage girl from Burnaby, B.C.

Prosecutor Isobel Keeley told the judge Thursday the court expected to hear victim impact statements from at least seven people, including the girl's father, brother and friends from school and family.

Ali told the judge at a pre-sentencing hearing on Thursday that he did not kill the girl and he will also be given the opportunity to make his case on Friday.

The girl's body was found in Burnaby Central Park in July 2017, and Ali was arrested the following year.

Last December, after an eight-month trial, a jury returned a guilty verdict in less than 24 hours, based on semen found in the girl's body matching Ali's DNA.

Ali, who faces a mandatory life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years, and his attorneys are expected to appear at the hearing via video.
