Homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death after a shooting near downtown Edmonton early Monday morning.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near 109 Avenue and 96 Street around 5:15 a.m.

They found a man with serious, life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

A male suspect, whose age police did not disclose, was taken into custody a short time later.

The EPS Homicide Unit took over the investigation of this case.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
