Halsey is making a comeback and the singer is “lucky to be alive”.
On Tuesday, the Grammy-nominated singer shared an update on social media, revealing that she has been privately battling several chronic illnesses. (Halsey uses she/they pronouns.)
“Long story short, I'm lucky to be alive. Long story short, I wrote an album,” Halsey, 29, wrote on Instagram.
Halsey, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, did not explicitly disclose her diagnosis, but she tagged the nonprofit Lupus Research Alliance and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in her post.
lupus It is a chronic disease caused by inflammation in one or more parts of the body. The Lupus Society of Canada says the disease is “complex and confusing” and can attack any tissue or organ in the body, including the skin, muscles, blood, heart and brain. An estimated 1 in 1,000 Canadians are diagnosed with lupus. There is currently no cure.

leukemia and Lymphoma Both are blood cancers. Leukemia affects the blood and bone marrow, while lymphoma affects the part of the body that protects it from disease and infection, the lymphatic system. Both diseases are usually treated with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. In 2020, there were an estimated 6,900 new cases of leukemia in Canada, and 11,400 new cases of lymphoma were diagnosed in the same year.
Halsey shared several videos on her Instagram, one of which showed her massaging her legs in what looked like a painful moment.
“I feel like an old lady.” without me the singer lamented. “I told myself, I'll give myself two more years to be sick. When I'm 30, I'm going to be reborn, I won't be sick, I'm going to look super sexy, I'm going to have so much energy, I'm going to live my 20s life again in my 30s.”
Halsey also shared videos of herself receiving therapy, crying, and playing guitar.
In addition to acknowledging her personal health situation, Halsey has released a new song about chronic illness, titled Finish.
“Every few years/ A doctor says I’m sick/ And comes up with a whole new bag of tricks/ And uses it on me,” they sing on the single.
In 2022, Halsey said they had some health issues after giving birth to their first child, Ander. She said she became “Really, really, really disgusting.” despite having been ill for most of her adult life.
She told Vanity Fair that she has been hospitalized multiple times for allergies and has been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjögren's syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Halsey has previously been diagnosed with endometriosis.
