Guelph police say a man was injured after he was attacked with a metal pipe outside a social services agency.

Police said Sunday that a former client was barred from the establishment and clashed with a staff member.

The defendant picked up a metal pipe and repeatedly struck the employee in the torso, arms, legs and head.

Investigators said after the victim pulled out his cellphone to call for help, the man struck the victim in the arm, causing him to drop the phone.

The attack ended when another worker pulled into the parking lot at Silvercreek Parkway and Woodlawn Road.

Police responded and arrested the suspect a short distance away.

Police said the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
