CEO of Flair Aviation Stephen Jones He will step down this summer after more than three and a half years at the helm of the budget airline.

The CEO's tenure has been a turbulent period for the seven-year-old company as the airline has expanded its fleet but also encountered financial headwinds amid stiff competition.

Flair said the recruitment process for a successor is underway, with Chief Operating Officer Maciej Wilk named interim CEO until the board selects a successor.

Flair said its fleet of 20 aircraft will “continue to operate normally” during the transition, although some of the obstacles from the past 18 months remain.

Jones Aviation suspended its expansion plans earlier this year as it faced aircraft delivery delays and huge debt. Including $67 million in unpaid federal taxes As of November, import duties on its jets have been reduced to the lowest level.

The outgoing CEO said in a news release that he is proud to have enabled more Canadians to travel through the airline's relatively low fares.
