A teen has been charged after she allegedly assaulted a Durham Region police officer over vaping, sending the officer to the hospital, police said.

Durham Regional Police said officers were called to a home in the area of ​​Taunton Road West and Thornton Road North around 10:10 p.m. Sunday for a report of a domestic dispute.

Police said a woman was “harassing” her parents and refused to leave the house.

“After speaking with officers, the female agreed to leave the residence but wanted to vape in the bedroom,” police said.

“When the female did not immediately get her e-cigarette, she assaulted a police officer.”

Police said the teen was taken into custody.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
