A union representing about 120 workers who provide meter reading, inspection and locating services to Manitoba Hydro customers says members have voted to strike in support of their demands for a new contract.
Unifor said in a statement that 92 per cent of members of Local 681, which works for Manitoba Hydro subsidiary Utilities Services, voted in favour of a strike on Saturday.

The statement said that if there is no new contract, Local 681 will begin a legal strike on July 3.
Unifor said the workers were seeking a benefits package similar to that already approved for public sector workers by the state-owned utility, but talks stalled earlier this month.
The last contract at Local 681 expired nearly two years ago, and the union says wages at the plant have increased just 1.75 percent over the past four years.
Manitoba Hydro did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the strike vote.
