Longboarders will be zipping down Kelowna’s Knox Mountain this weekend at the third annual Knox Mountain Downhill Event.
The Kamloops Longboard Club and the Kelowna Longboard Alliance co-founded the competition to celebrate longboarders and lugers from around the world.
“Knox Mountain is a really great course for us,” said race director David Bevers. “You’re sprinting 95 to 105 kilometers on this course, so you need to be good at going fast. You need to be good at turning. So, only the best can do well here.”

This weekend, more than 60 longboarders competed from top to bottom along the winding mountain trails.
But the track itself is only part of the event’s appeal.
“There’s a lot of community and people you race with,” said Tristan Lawton, a longboarder from Calgary. “If you need anything, there are people who will try to help you, and most importantly, you get a kick out of it.”
Organizers made the event free to the public in hopes of attracting more people, and brought in food trucks. The Knox Mountain Downhill Race will close for another year on Sunday, June 2 at 5 p.m.
