One of Calgary's busiest roads is about to get repaired, and many people are already worried it will cause extra delays to their commute.
“Traffic in the city has been out of control lately and this is just going to make it worse,” Justin Cox said.
Thursday City of Calgary Announce Road maintenance The 9km run will start on Monday, June 3. Crowchild Trail northwest, between Stoney Trail and 32nd Avenue.
The city said in a news release that this construction work is critical to ensuring the safety and longevity of roads and sidewalks.
Crews will repair and replace asphalt pavement and repair concrete, while replacing sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, curbs, barriers and gutters.

Calgary resident Kurtt Bonnes said maintenance is necessary.
“We need it just to make the city flow more smoothly and get people from point A to point B, but the reality is, I’m a commuter and we’re dealing with congestion right now,” Bonnes said. “It’s all over the city.”

The project is expected to be completed by mid-September, with work stopping in July during the Calgary Stampede.
Patrick Chen, owner of a barbershop in Brentwood, is worried he might lose customers during the roadworks.
“People may put off getting a haircut, or they may go somewhere else for a haircut in a few months.
Donna Rizzuto, owner of Angles Hair & Spa, isn't worried about the upcoming construction affecting her business.
“I think the city has done a good job with alternative routes,” Rizzuto said. “Luckily, a lot of my clients live nearby, but even if they live in the southwest, I don’t think they’d have a problem coming here.”
The $7.3 million project is part of a $40 million annual paving program budgeted through 2024.
According to the city, one to two lanes in each direction of Crowchild Trail will be open and in regular use at all times, and the majority of the work will be performed during off-peak hours.
