The City of Winnipeg may have marked the milestone, but celebrations continue as the community looks back on its 150-year history.

There are also two community events in June as residents celebrate Winnipeg's 150th anniversary.

On June 15, City Councilman Evan Duncan will preside over All-Day Block Party at Charleswood Dog Park The festival begins at 11 a.m., is free, and will feature food trucks, a market square, musical performances and flag football for any football fan.

Soka Reggae Festival will be held at Old Market Square on June 28-29. The event will feature live music and performances from a variety of artists and will take place over the Canada Day long weekend.

The celebration honors Winnipeg's heritage — On January 19, 1873, the City Council met for the first time. Discuss the procedural issues at the time.

In a previous interview with Global News, Mayor Scott Gillingham said he was glad to be on this side of history.

“I It’s hard to imagine what the first mayor and council went through because they literally started from scratch and organized a city government,” he said.

The city said the theme of this year's anniversary is “Our Shared Story, Our Shared Future.” In January of this year, we launched a new graphic identity to celebrate our anniversary..
