No matter how much the amount is, from zero to 100%, Central Okanagan The district is studying the issue.

So the district is once again inviting residents to take part in an online survey about food waste.

This short survey will run until July 2.

According to the RDCO, the purpose of the survey “is to gather more specific feedback to help determine food waste collection methods in the Central Okanagan.”

The survey is the second phase of a study into waste collection in the area.

The first phase took place last fall. According to RDCO, 73 percent of respondents said they were enthusiastic about a curbside food waste disposal program, and 83 percent said they would participate if the program were implemented.

The questionnaire is also available in printed form, available over the counter at all council halls in the region and at the administration office at Glenmore dump.

“In Phase One, we heard loud and clear our residents’ interest in a food waste collection program in the Central Okanagan,” said Cynthia Coates, RDCO solid waste supervisor.

Increasing demand for “imperfect” products


“Now, we are seeking residents’ help to develop criteria for the future implementation of the program.

“Understanding residents’ preferences when it comes to receiving this service will help staff design a program that best meets the needs for food waste collection in the Central Okanagan.”
