Police say they have arrested a prominent Canadian businessman in a sexual assault investigation and charged him with multiple offences including rape.

Peel Regional Police, based west of Toronto, said late Friday they had arrested a 91-year-old man. Frank Stronach Involving allegations of sexual assault going back decades.

“The alleged sexual assaults occurred from the 1980s to 2023,” investigators said in a statement.

Peel Regional Police confirmed to Global News that the man they arrested, Frank Stronach, is the Canadian businessman and said he has been conditionally released pending a court date.

Stronach faces five criminal charges: rape, indecent assault on a female, two counts of sexual battery and one count of mandatory confinement.

Stronach is a “resident administrator” who came to Canada from Austria in 1954, according to a biography on the University of Toronto website.

He made his money from auto parts, with global sales of billions of dollars.

Global News reached out to Stronach for comment through Stronach International Inc. but did not immediately receive a response.

Peel police said they are asking anyone with more information or who believes there are additional victims to come forward.
