Canada recalls thousands of LED lights due to fire and burn risks - National | Globalnews.ca

Thousands of rechargeable LED lights have been recalled in Canada following a number of fires in the United States that have left at least one person dead.

Health Canada issued the recall on Thursday Between October 2017 and January 2024, Good Earth Lighting sold about 37,800 motion-activated light bars in the country.

“The battery could overheat and ignite the light's plastic casing, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers,” Health Canada said.

The affected products are 12 inches long and have model numbers RE1122-WHG-12LF0-F and RE1362-RGB-12LF2-G.

Health Canada and Good Earth Lighting are urging consumers to stop using these lamps immediately and contact the company for a free replacement.

Good Earth Lighting says Affected consumers will have a variety of lamps to choose from, and they will not have to pay shipping and handling fees.

After successfully registering the company, Health Canada says: “Consumers should dispose of lithium-ion battery-powered lights in accordance with municipal electrical waste disposal guidelines.”

Any relevant health or safety incidents should be reported to the agency.

In Canada, as of May 17, Good Earth Lighting has received one incident report related to the affected LED lamps.

About 1.2 million lights have been recalled in the U.S., and the company has received seven reports of fires and one report of property damage. There has also been one death in the U.S.

The light strips are manufactured in China and Cambodia.
