More than 120 Beaver Scouts took over Camp Dunlop in south Kelowna on Saturday to celebrate the Scouts’ 50th anniversary.
“The Beaver Scouts are part of Scouts Canada and are between the ages of 5-7, so this is our youngest group and we meet mostly outdoors. We learn skills like first aid, sailing, hiking, and lots of wild games,” said Scout leader Melissa Barriault
Beaver Scouts at Camp Dunlop participated in a number of activities organized around eight stations to learn new skills and build friendships.

“We’re doing archery, we’re doing plastic axe throwing, we have bubble stations, field games, and we’re signing a big birthday card to celebrate,” Barriault said.
“During the pandemic, we’ve seen a big drop in the number of these sub-groups (of Scouts Canada), so it’s nice to see it’s growing now,” said Sebastian Griffin, scout leader of Bear Scouts 1 in Kelowna.
At the end of the day, each Beaver Scout walks away with a gift bag and a special patch to commemorate the day.
Since 1974, Beaver Scouts has been dedicated to getting children outdoors and helping them develop a reverence for nature.
