BC United launches child care program, promises $10 a day in cash back | Globalnews.ca

With just over four months until the British Columbia election, the opposition BC United They have already published their Child Care platform.

The party unveiled its own $10-a-day child care plan and accused the governing BC NDP of failing to deliver on its promises.

Under the BC United plan, low- and moderate-income parents will receive cash back of more than $10 a day on child care costs.

The party also promises to provide tax credits to families whose child care is provided by parents, grandparents or other family members.

The party also pledged to increase available spots in British Columbia by expanding child care services in schools and hospitals and incentivizing private-sector day care.

“We’re going to engage the private sector, which, by the way, provides the majority of the additional seats, and we’re going to engage the nonprofit sector as well,” Falcon said.

“We will incentivize employers so they have an incentive to ensure their workplaces provide child care, and we will ensure child care is included in our schools and hospitals.”

BC United claims that only 10 per cent of BC households can qualify for the governing New Democratic Party’s (NDP) $10-a-day plan.

According to the province, More than 15,000 children are currently receiving $10-a-day child carewith the goal of reaching 20,000 parking spaces by 2026.

The provincial government says the average daily cost of care for children under five under its child care program has dropped from $54 to $19.
