This weekend, Vancouver is hosting a major expo showcasing Black-owned businesses.

this African World Expo The two-day event at the Vancouver Convention Centre in 2024 aims to showcase African and Caribbean products, culture and companies.

“(It’s) bringing our businesses, our food, our clothing and our fashion to the broader Vancouver community,” said Clavia Alleyne, vice-president of the Black Business Association of British Columbia.

The second annual fair provides a platform for small businesses, artists and community organizations to showcase and brings the community together for two days of fun and educational events.

One such entrepreneur is Ayissi Nyemba of Emkao Foods, which produces premium chocolate products.

“I’m a third-generation cocoa farmer, and when I started seeing irregularities and how little small cocoa farmers were getting, I wanted to do something different,” she said.

Event highlights include a live band, a masquerade in traditional African costumes and other performances.
