Waterloo Regional Police say a woman and three children were taken to hospital after a vehicle crashed into the Grand River bus shelter in Kitchener on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, a Toyota left the road and struck a bus shelter on Belmont Avenue near Glasgow Street around 5 p.m.

Police said four people were inside the shelter, including a 36-year-old woman and three children under the age of six.

Paramedics transported all victims to a local hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The two occupants of the Toyota did not report any injuries from the collision to police.

Police say a 36-year-old Kitchener woman faces charges of careless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt while behind the wheel.

Belmont Avenue was closed for several hours on Saturday while police investigated the collision.
