Two people were injured in a bear attack in Waterton Lakes National Park on Tuesday.
Parks Canada officials say the two were “climbing up” Ruby Ridge from Crandall Lake when they encountered a bear around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The bear attacked the party, injuring two people.
Bear spray was used, the bear disengaged, and the group was able to leave the area, according to a news release Wednesday. The hiker left the area and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in stable condition.
In response to the bear attacks, Parks Canada has closed the following areas:
- Crandall Lake Trail, all sections
- Lyneham Trail
- Crandall Lake Backcountry Campground
- Former Crandall Mountain Camping Area
- Canyon Church Campground
- Neighboring backcountry areas, including Crandall Mountain and Ruby Ridge
Parks Canada said the bear has not been found and officials are investigating the matter.
